Here are three important tips on yoga before attending your first lesson: Learn the termsLearning the terms could be challenging at first, but once you're use to it, it'll be a piece of cake. There are only six simple terms to remember - asana, japa, mandala, mantra, nirvana and samadhi. Asana simply means posture. You should be both comfortable and stable when meditating. Japa means the repetition of mantra, while mantrameans sacred words used as on object of meditation. Mandala, a sacred diagram used as an object of meditation, is often used in esoteric and Tibetan Buddhism. Nirvana means self realization. Lastly, samadhi means a state of meditative union with the Absolute, or a high state of awareness and concentration that is short of self-realization. The meditation checklist!Always carry a meditation checklist. Establishing a meditative practice may feel like one more thing on your endless to-do list, in which everything you need to know to find clarity and comfort in the practice. Balancing Postures with Relaxation & Meditation 💆🏽It’s always important to maintain a good posture, as it ensures breathing to be easier and better. Doctors often encourage their patients to sit up straight when they are busy listening to their lungs. Bad posture rarely has permanent effect on one. However, for most people, their body has adapted to be more comfortable in the slouching position. Slouching causes restrictions in the ease of breathing volume and tightening these muscles even slightly to make oneself more erect as tightness in the entire upper body reduces the ease of deeper breathing. Besides, most yoga instructors would not emphasise on the use of relaxation and meditation in yoga, due to the heavy emphasis on the asanas practised. However, most people take up yoga as a form of physical workout and neglects the fact that it helps with relaxation and reducing stress.
